Budd-style truck wheels use square fasteners on the inner wheel, and those call for a socket with a square opening. Genius Tools Metric Budd Wheel Sockets are made for exactly that job and are sized in metric square sizes for commercial vehicle wheel service.
Four sizes are offered: 17mm, 19mm, 20mm and 21mm. Every socket is 90mm long, giving the reach needed on dual-wheel assemblies, and all are driven by a 3/4 inch square drive that fits heavy-duty impact wrenches.
These sockets are made of Chrome Molybdenum steel. The catalog also includes Budd wheel sockets like these in its TR-611MS truck wheel impact socket set, alongside deep and deep thin wall sockets for the rest of the wheel fasteners.
Using a dedicated square socket on Budd wheel fasteners avoids forcing a hex socket onto the wrong shape, which helps protect both the fastener and the tool. An SAE version is offered in 11/16 inch, 3/4 inch and 13/16 inch for inch-size square fasteners.
